Custom Mirror Installation in NYC

NYC Glass & Window Repair measures, fabricates and professionally installs custom mirrors for apartments, condos, co-ops, townhouses, gyms, dance and yoga studios, salons, hotels, restaurants, retail spaces and offices. Options include polished and beveled edges, custom shapes, holes and cutouts, safety backing, antique or decorative mirror and multi-panel wall systems.

A successful installation depends on more than the mirror: wall condition, panel size and weight, access route, mounting method, edge clearances, outlets, sconces, trim and adjacent finishes are all considered before fabrication.

Custom vs. Stock Mirrors

Stock mirrors work when a standard size fits. A custom mirror can be sized wall-to-wall, aligned with tile or millwork, shaped around an alcove, finished with polished or beveled edges, and produced with holes or cutouts for outlets, sconces and fixtures. Larger walls can be divided into multiple panels that respect fabrication, access and handling limits.

Bathroom, Wall-to-Wall & Home Mirrors

Bathroom & Vanity Mirrors

Bathroom mirrors can align with vanities, tile, lighting and plumbing: wall-to-wall, floating frameless, beveled, recessed, or with fixture cutouts. Moisture matters, so substrate, backing, edge exposure, adhesive and ventilation affect long-term appearance, and mirror-safe adhesives should be used.

Wall-to-Wall Mirrors

These make rooms feel brighter and larger in home gyms, bedrooms, dressing areas, hallways and dining rooms. Panel layout is planned before fabrication so seams align intentionally.

Full-Length, Dressing Room & Closet Mirrors

Custom sizing aligns mirrors with doors, trim and millwork. For door-mounted applications, the door manufacturer, weight capacity and attachment method must be evaluated.

Antique & Decorative Mirrors

Antique and decorative mirror creates an aged or patterned look for restaurants, bars and feature walls. Because the pattern is part of the design, layout and sample approval are important.

Gym, Dance Studio & Commercial Mirrors

Gym Mirrors

Gym mirrors need accurate alignment, secure mounting and protection for a high-use environment. Multi-panel installations are laid out for consistent bottom elevations, vertical joints and reflection quality.

Dance & Yoga Studio Mirrors

Long runs of full-height panels require consistent alignment, since uneven planes and poorly planned joints make reflections look discontinuous. We field-measure the wall, review base and ceiling conditions and install the mirrors as a coordinated system.

Commercial, Salon, Hotel & Retail Mirrors

We fabricate and install mirrors for salons, spas, barber shops, hotels, restaurants, bars, fitting rooms and medical facilities. Commercial work may involve repeated dimensions, panel schedules, COIs, freight-elevator reservations and after-hours installation, coordinated with architects, designers and millworkers.

Edges, Shapes, Cutouts & Safety Backing

A flat polished edge gives a clean finish for exposed frameless mirrors; a beveled edge adds an angled decorative border. Edge choice affects appearance and cost and should be confirmed before fabrication.

Custom mirrors can be rectangles, circles, arches and other shapes with holes or cutouts for outlets, switches, sconces and faucets. Every penetration limits flexibility after fabrication, so exact fixture locations must be field-verified first.

Safety backing is a protective film on the rear of the mirror that helps retain fragments if it breaks, commonly considered for gyms and studios. It does not make a mirror unbreakable; thickness, panel size, mounting and wall condition still matter.

Mounting, Wall Conditions & Access

Mounting Methods

Options include mirror-compatible mastic, clips, channels, Z-clips or French-cleat-type systems, stand-offs, or combinations of adhesive and mechanical support. The method is selected for the actual wall and mirror; heavy or oversized mirrors may need additional support.

Wall Conditions

A mirror reflects the plane behind it. In pre-war NYC buildings, walls can be out of plumb or irregular, so field measurements, templates or planned panel divisions accommodate real conditions. Major wall correction may need the general contractor or another trade.

Oversized Mirrors & NYC Access

The largest mirror that can be fabricated is not always the largest that can reach the room. Lobby doors, stairs, hallways and freight elevators limit panel size, so walls are often divided into multiple panels. High-rise buildings may require COIs, delivery reservations and protection of common areas.

Replacement, Repair & Deterioration

Mirror Replacement & Broken Mirror Removal

Cracked, chipped or deteriorated mirrors can be removed and replaced with a custom panel. Removal requires care because large adhered panels can release in sections, and existing adhesive or clips affect the replacement scope.

Loose Mirror Repair & Re-Mounting

A mirror moving or separating from the wall should be evaluated promptly. Depending on condition, it may be secured or remounted; if the backing or edges are damaged, or safe removal would break it, replacement is better.

Black Edges & Desilvering

Dark edges usually mean the reflective backing has deteriorated, often from moisture or chemicals. Cleaning will not restore it, so replacement is generally the practical solution.

LED & Lighted Mirrors

LED mirrors include electrical components and manufacturer-specific dimensions. We coordinate the mirror scope, while electrical connections should be made by the appropriately qualified trade when required.

Cost & Timeline

Pricing depends on dimensions, thickness, mirror type, edge finish, number of panels, custom shapes, cutouts, safety backing, mounting system, access and installation conditions. A small polished vanity mirror is a different scope from a floor-to-ceiling gym wall or a multi-panel antique feature. Send photographs, approximate dimensions and project type for an accurate estimate; final pricing follows confirmed dimensions and fabrication details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Mirrors can be fabricated to exact dimensions with polished or beveled edges, custom shapes and appropriate holes or cutouts for fixtures and outlets.

Yes. Gym and studio projects can use multiple aligned panels, appropriate mounting systems and safety backing where specified. Panel layout accounts for wall conditions and access.

Sometimes. Maximum practical size depends on fabrication, weight, wall dimensions and the route through the building. Multiple panels may be necessary when elevators, hallways or stairs limit access.

Yes, many custom mirrors include fabricated cutouts or holes. Fixture locations and clearances must be measured accurately before fabrication.

A polished edge is a smooth finished perimeter, while a beveled edge has an angled decorative border. The choice depends on design and whether the edge stays exposed.

Safety backing is commonly considered for gyms, studios and high-traffic environments because it helps retain fragments if the mirror breaks. Project-specific requirements should still be confirmed.

Blackening usually involves deterioration of the reflective backing. Once the silvering has deteriorated, replacement is generally the practical solution.
