Custom Shower Doors & Glass Shower Enclosures in NYC
Every custom shower enclosure begins with the opening, not a catalog size. Wall conditions, tile, curb or tub geometry, ceiling height, plumbing fixtures, door swing, glass support and hardware locations all influence the design. Accurate field measurement is essential because tempered shower glass cannot be cut, drilled or notched after tempering.
We install frameless doors, hinged enclosures, sliding systems, fixed panels, bathtub enclosures and corner showers for apartments, condos, co-ops, townhouses, hotels and renovations.

Frameless, Hinged, Sliding & Fixed Designs
Frameless Shower Doors
Frameless enclosures use heavy tempered glass and minimal metal; the glass provides much of the rigidity while hinges, clamps, channels or headers support the system. "Frameless" does not mean zero metal.
Custom Glass for Your Bathroom
New York bathrooms rarely behave like perfect rectangles. Walls can be out of plumb and curbs can slope, so we field-measure the finished opening and fabricate glass to actual conditions, including notches and angles.
Hinged Doors
Hinged doors provide a wide opening. We check swing clearance, nearby toilets or vanities, curb geometry, shower-head location and hinge support.
Sliding & Bypass Doors
Sliding systems suit limited space. Opening width, glass weight, track or header, handle clearance and bottom guides are selected for the opening.
Fixed Panels & Walk-In Showers
A fixed panel gives a simple walk-in look. Panel width should be coordinated with shower-head direction and slope; a more open design may allow more water migration.
Bathtub, Corner & Neo-Angle Enclosures
Tub enclosures use fixed splash panels, hinged screens or sliding doors. Corner and neo-angle showers join multiple glass planes, making precise measurement and templates important.
Glass Thickness, Safety Glass & Glass Options
3/8-Inch vs. 1/2-Inch
Heavy frameless enclosures commonly use 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch tempered glass. 3/8-inch offers substantial rigidity with less weight; 1/2-inch adds stiffness but increases weight and hardware demands. Thicker is not automatically better.
Tempered Safety Glass
Shower enclosures require safety glazing. All holes, hinge cutouts, handle holes and notches must be completed before tempering, which is why final measurement after tile is critical.
Clear, Low-Iron, Frosted & Patterned
Low-iron glass reduces the green cast of clear glass and suits white tile and light stone. Frosted or acid-etched glass adds privacy; patterned glass adds texture. Review samples, as screens misrepresent tint and texture.
Hardware, Finishes & Minimal Designs
Components include wall-to-glass and glass-to-glass hinges, clamps, U-channels, headers, handles, towel bars, rollers, bottom guides and seals, in chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, brass and other finishes. Select hardware as a coordinated set.
U-channel gives a continuous support line and tolerates small wall variations; clamps and brackets look more minimal but need precise fabrication and suitable backing. Header-free designs are possible when glass geometry, panel sizes and supports allow, but large unsupported panels or glass-to-glass doors may need stabilization. Safe support comes first.
Water Management & Waterproofing
Enclosures control normal shower splash, but frameless systems are not watertight aquariums; small operating clearances are required at doors and hinges. Water performance depends on curb or floor slope, shower-head direction, body sprays, door gaps, seals and the waterproofing behind the tile. The glass installer does not replace the bathroom's waterproofing system. We can recommend seals or layout changes where containment matters.
Replacement, Repair & Custom Bathroom Glass
Shower Door Replacement
An outdated or damaged enclosure can often be replaced without rebuilding the bathroom. Old holes in tile or stone may remain visible if new hardware locations differ, and concealed backing cannot always be verified without opening finished surfaces.
Repair & Hardware Replacement
Depending on the system, repair may include hinges, handles, rollers, guides and seals. Chipped, cracked or incompatibly fabricated tempered glass may need replacing.
Custom Bathroom Glass
Mirrors, shelves, privacy panels, backsplashes and partitions can be fabricated with polished edges, holes and frosting. See Mirror Installation and Custom Glass Partitions.
Apartments, Luxury, Hotel & Multifamily Projects
NYC apartment renovations often require COIs, approved work hours, elevator reservations, floor and wall protection and superintendent coordination. Final measurement should happen after tile, curb and tub surfaces are complete.
Luxury bathrooms with oversized glass, low-iron material, premium hardware or floor-to-ceiling panels benefit from early coordination with the architect, designer or contractor. For hotels and multifamily developments we plan from actual quantities, with standardized field verification, approved specifications, mock-ups and sequenced installation.
Cost & Timeline
Cost depends on glass size and thickness, configuration, number of panels, hardware, finish, low-iron or specialty glass and access. Lead time depends on glass processing, tempering, hardware availability and complexity, and is confirmed when the order is placed.

Our Process
- Initial design review. Send photos, approximate dimensions and examples of the preferred style.
- Configuration and budget. Review frameless, hinged, sliding, fixed-panel and hardware options.
- Final field measurement. Measure the completed opening after surfaces affecting the glass are finished.
- Glass and hardware approval. Confirm glass type, thickness, hardware style, finish and handle.
- Fabrication. Glass is cut, edged, drilled or notched as required and tempered before delivery.
- Installation. Glass and hardware are installed, aligned and sealed for the site.
- Final adjustment. Door operation and clearances are reviewed and care guidance provided.

Frequently Asked Questions
Many frameless systems use 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch tempered glass. The appropriate thickness depends on panel dimensions, door design, support and compatible hardware; thicker is not automatically better.
Often, yes. Custom glass can be fabricated to measured wall conditions within the limits of the selected system. Final measurement after tile is essential.
Low-iron glass contains less iron than standard clear glass, reducing the green tint visible through the glass and along edges. It is often chosen for white tile, light stone and minimalist bathrooms.
No. Frameless doors require operating clearances, and water control depends on shower-head direction, slope, seals and the bathroom's underlying waterproofing.
Yes, many systems are available in black, brass, chrome, nickel and other finishes. Availability and matching vary by manufacturer.
Sometimes. Existing glass dimensions, hole and notch locations, condition and hardware compatibility must be evaluated. Because tempered glass cannot be re-drilled, new glass may be needed.
Final measurement should generally occur after tile, curb, tub and other finished surfaces that determine the opening are complete.
Yes, subject to building requirements. We coordinate COIs, scheduling, access and protection for managed properties.
